How to: stop ChatGPT from using your chats to train its models
OpenAI's help center explains how to turn off 'Improve the model for everyone' and how Temporary Chat works. It also says content from ChatGPT Business and Enterprise workspaces is not used for training by default.
Why it matters
This is a how-to, not an incident. On personal accounts, training on your conversations may be on unless you turn it off.
What to do
- On the web: Settings → Data controls → turn off 'Improve the model for everyone'.
- Use Temporary Chat for one-off questions; OpenAI says these may still be kept up to 30 days for safety.
- Even with training off, never paste client SSNs, returns or bank details.
